Intellectual Property

Gravel and Shea has assisted many well-known Vermont companies in obtaining, and protecting, their valuable intellectual property. We assist clients in determining the availability and relative strength of potential trademarks, and in obtaining trademark registrations with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. We also litigate trademark, copyright, patent and domain name disputes, including unfair competition claims under the Lanham Act.

Gravel and Shea attorneys have substantial experience in advising clients, and in litigating cases, with regard to other intangible business assets, such as trade secrets, covenants not to compete, and interference with business relations. The firm successfully defended Chroma Technology Corporation and its founders in one of the most significant trade secret cases to be decided by the Vermont Supreme Court. Omega Optical, Inc. v. Chroma Technology Corp., 174 Vt. 10 (2002).
